Penny’s II has a very “dinerish” feel to it – a little small but it felt like you were in a true diner car! Waitress was great and manager kept checking on the customers, food was also very good.
Just a quick question regarding the grading system. The Green Olive got an A- but the first categories got an OK and Penny’s Diner got a B+ but you rated everything as Great? I’m no way affiliated with these diners. I’m reading reviews for the next diner to visit. Tx
Thanks for your comment, a few years ago our grading system was very by the book and we had a grading sheet that we filled out to get the proper grade – this ended up giving diners we thought were amazing poor grades and not so great diners good ones. We have since switched to the categories to rate each either Poor, OK, or Great (instead of a something out of 10 rating) and we started to add the description to help explain better what we think.
We believe that the most important aspect of a diner is the food so while we take all the categories into account for the grade, it mostly comes to down to would we go again and the food weighs heavily on that. For instance, if the service was bad it won’t necessarily be the same for the next visit because that lays mostly on the waitress/waiter. Penny’s II was a great diner and the food was good whereas The Green Olive’s food seemed better in our opinion, even though you could tell you were sitting in an old McDonald’s.
Hope we cleared it up for you! We appreciate your feedback!
Thank you for clearing that out for me. I’ll be heading over to CT this year and I’m researching the best diners across the state. This will be my field guide, no doubt. 🙂 Thanks again and keep the reviews coming!
